Lidl, CCG and Kingsmead Developments are proposing a mixed-use development in Alexandria Town Centre.

The Development Partnership of Lidl, CCG and Kingsmead is looking to regenerate the town centre of Alexandria on the Mitchell Way site through a mixed use development of retail and residential uses.

The aim of the scheme is to deliver a new, modern and spacious development including a brand new Lidl store, and retail shop units with new housing above immediately adjacent, all as per the draft layout shown. The site is bounded to the east by Bank Street, to the north by Mitchell Way and to the west by the Co-operative Food Store and St Andrew’s Parish Church.

The new Lidl store will be a single storey retail property comprising 1,327 sq m (14,284 sq ft) of sales area with the new retail shops comprising around 10 units of between 93 and 232 sq m (1,000 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft) for a range of tenants and will include the rehousing of Mitchell Street traders as well as attracting new business into the town, while the residential development above will provide 26 flats.

A new shoppers car park will be delivered with the store of around 138 spaces with easy access to the remainder of the town centre.

The overall development will bring much needed new investment into the town centre and new retail choice for shoppers

Lidl’s investment alone will create up to 40 new jobs at a minimum of £8.25 per hour and with no staff operating on zero-hour contracts.

The Lidl will additionally contain:

  • In-store bakery where customers can see the products being prepared before being stocked
  • Restricted product lines designed to complement the town centre offer
  • Wide and accessible aisles for free movement and customer toilets

Overall, the development will provide a new, bright environment for shoppers and other users of the town centre.
